ONLY IN OUR DREAMS
Chapter 23

Amber's view

"Baby, don't be upset things like this happen. It was a spur of the moment thing…we'll use one tonight."
I stood there with an upset look on my face. I picked up the rest of my clothes and started back down the path towards the cabin. I stormed into the cabin, pushing Howie out of my way and rushing past Rhonda, cussing AJ out all along the way. "Stupid bastard how come he has to be so damn irresistible." I was also cussing myself out too. "Fuck! How come you let him?"
"What's going on?" asked Rhonda as AJ flew into the house behind me.
"Why don't you ask him what he forgot?" I yelled storming down the hallway. "I only asked him to remember one thing this entire week."
"What did he forget?" Nick whispered to Missy.
"I'll tell ya later."
"Well whatever it is couldn't you borrow it from someone else?" Nick asked.
Howie shook his head knowing AJ was in big trouble, "How could you do that J?"
"Like you never forgot one!"
"If he did he wouldn't be getting any that night!" Rhonda said.
"Well isn't she…"Howie started to ask.
"They're in the hotel in New York!!!" AJ and I shouted together.
I walked into the room, slammed the door shut and locked it. AJ came up and knocked on the door. "Hey babe, let me in."
"No!"
"Come on are you that mad at me?"
I opened the door and stood there glaring at him. "Am I that mad you?! Am I that mad at you…you knew the situation – you knew we needed protection. I am mad at you for talking me into it and I am fucking mad at me for listening to you!" With that I slammed the door again.

Rhonda's View

AJ came back looking distraught and confused. "Women! I don't think I'm ever going to understand them."
"Um, what's wrong AJ?" Howie asked.
"I'm as confused as a baby in a topless bar."
I just looked up at Howie and knew it was time for them to have "a guy talk". Missy and I went to see if I could comfort Amber a bit.

"Amber – open up," Amber slightly opened the door to make sure that we were alone.
"He's not with you, is he?" I couldn't tell if she was hoping he was there or really wanted him to stay away.
"No – Howie and Nick are in the living room talking to him."
"Great – the last thing I need is for everyone to know what happened!"
"Honey – you yelled it. I think the entire state of New York knows what happened…well, everyone but Nick." I was pretty proud that I got a smile out of her with that line. "You know you can't totally blame AJ for all of this."
"I know I can't – I'm mad at myself too!"
"Well then let him know that!!" Missy yelled. "He's out there thinking that you're never going to speak to him again."
Amber just looked at us. She hated that we were right. "Just give me awhile – I need to be pissed at myself for awhile."
"Well, don't be too hard on yourself," I said and kissed her forehead.

Missy and I went back out and the guys stopped their conversation. "You guys don't have to stop talking on my account," I said.
"We can't exactly plan a special dinner for you guys if you're in the room," Nick said. AJ smacked Nick upside the head.
"You guys are planning a special dinner?" Missy asked. "With what?? We hardly got any groceries. Oh I'm getting the hell out of here!" I thought that sounded like a good idea and followed Missy into the living room.

* * *

"Shit!!" AJ screamed as we heard the dropping of pots in the kitchen.
"Do you guys need a hand in there?" I yelled to the kitchen.
"No we got everything covered," Howie yelled back. I didn't believe Howie for one second. I wandered into the kitchen, just to get something to drink. There were four pots on the stovetop, dishes piled in the sink and the guys were huddled together trying to read a cookbook. "Hey, I said we had everything covered. Get out of here! We're almost done!" Howie yelled.
I tried my hardest not to fall over laughing – I wished I had a camera at that moment. "I just came in here to get something to drink for me and Missy."
"Okay – here!" AJ said as he handed me a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses.
I walked out of the kitchen, laid on the ground with tears pouring out of my eyes unable to tell Missy about the site in the kitchen. "They...oh my god...they are...they are trying to cook lasagna!!"
"How the hell are they cooking lasagna?? We didn't buy any cheese or spaghetti sauce."
"I know that…you know that...but they obviously don't!!"
"Oh hand over that bottle of wine! We're gonna need it if they think we're going to eat their cooking!!"

Amber's View

I was sitting in my room listening to the radio when there was a knock on the door again. I just sat there.
"Honey?" AJ came into my room cautiously, "It's supper time…Howie, Nick and I made something special."
"The three of you cooked? I have to see this!" I got off the bed and brushed past AJ still a little upset about the whole woods thing. In the living room I saw Rhonda sitting on the floor trying not to laugh at the sounds coming from the kitchen. "You let them cook?!" I said giving her the "you should know better" look.

"AJ wanted to do something special - and they wouldn't let me in the kitchen so don't blame me for whatever comes out of there," she said as she burst into laughter again.
"Dinners ready!" came Howie's voice from the dining room. We all piled in to get a good look at what Nick was now setting on the table. None us girls knew what to say – sitting in front us was what we could only guess at being lasagna. It was lop-sided with one end burnt and one side only half cooked.
"I am not eating that!" Missy said looking disgusted.
"What's wrong with it?" Nick asked
"Well – let's start with the fact that that looks a lot like Velveeta cheese instead ricotta, not to mention that the sauce looks a little runny," I said.
"Well we didn't have ricotta and we didn't have tomato paste so we used soup instead. It's about the same thing," AJ said grabbing a knife to cut into it.
"I'm gonna need some more wine to get this stuff down," Rhonda said walking over to where the wine was kept and grabbing another glass off the shelf.
"I'm with you there," I said following her.
"Ummm…do you think you should be drinking under the circumstances?" Howie said looking concerned.
"Yeah baby maybe you shouldn't have any." I shot them both a look and poured myself a glass.
"I'll explain it to them," Missy said taking them aside and giving them a sex 101 course. They all looked like they understood after that. Missy walked back into the kitchen and came out with the bottle of wine and some left over pizza. "Well since none of us really want to eat that crap in there how 'bout we pig out, sit on the floor and play a game."
"Sounds like a plan," I said. "What game should we play?"
"How about strip poker?" asked AJ.
"NO!" Rhonda and I shouted at the same time. We both knew that when it came to clothes AJ would never loose.
"I have a game," said Rhonda "It's called 'I Never'"
"How do you play it?" asked Nick.
"Well first of all were gonna need more than this," she said pointing to the bottle of wine sitting on the coffee table. "Amber you know how this game goes why don't you go bring us what we need." I left and came back with a bottle of rum, a 2-liter of coke, and the mudslide.
"Hmmm and what's the purpose of this game?" Howie said looking at all the bottles in my hand.
"To get completely wasted and to find out stuff you never thought you wanted to know," said Missy.
"I'm in!" said AJ looking directly at me.
"Good, here's how the game is played. The person who's turn it is says something along the lines of 'I never had sex with Nick'. Now the persons in the room that have had sex with Nick," Rhonda glanced over at Missy who was blushing, "would have to take a drink. Easy right…o.k…let's play!"
"Who's gonna start?" Nick asked.
"I will," said Howie "This is gonna be fun." We all sat in a circle on the floor with our chosen drinks in front of us.
"Go ahead Howie start us off."

Howie thought for a minute and then said, "I have never had sex on the first date before." We laughed as all of us took a drink. "Your turn Missy."
"I have never dated more than two people at once." AJ and I both took a drink.
Rhonda's eyes sparkled with mischief "I have never dated more than three people at the same time."
"Shit!" I thought as I saw I was the only one drinking this time. AJ just looked at me. It was his turn now. "God I hope he asks another question than the one I know he's going to," I thought.
"I have never dated more than four people at one time." He said his eyes never straying from me and my glass.
"Fuck!" I said as I lifted the glass to drink again.
"Oh my god," AJ said in astonishment, "how many guys did you date at one time?"
"Honey that's not important now," I said trying to wiggle my way out of this conversation.
"How many?" AJ asked kind of upset now.
"Yeah come on tell us," Howie said backing his friend up.
"Five – o.k. – I dated five guys at once are you happy now." AJ just sat back in disbelief. "It was a long time ago in college," I said halfway trying to explain.
"Damn! And I thought you were a player Bone." Nick said "Anyway it's my turn now. I never had sex in my parents bedroom." We all laughed as Rhonda and Howie looked at each other, blushed, and then took a drink.
It was finally my turn. I decided to get Rhonda back for her little trick. "I never made a list of the top five stars I'd like to sleep with," I said knowing it would get me in more trouble with AJ, but not caring as I saw Rhonda cuss and take a drink.
"What is that all about?!" Howie said looking at Rhonda drink.
"What the fuck is a top five list?" said AJ obviously not completely over the five guys at once thing.
"Go ahead Rhon, you get to explain this one," I said giving her my best smile
"I just want you to know that I hate you right now," she said sticking out her tongue at me.
"We're waiting," said Howie crossing his arms.
"Well…see… it's this thing where you have a list of your top five stars and…and…god doesn't anyone watch Friends?"
"And what?" AJ and Howie said at almost the exact same moment.
"And well…you know its not considered cheating if you sleep with them."
"Am I on your list?" Howie asked
"Well…no."
"Why not?!"
"Because I have you so I couldn't consider sleeping with you cheating in any way."
"So who is on your top five list?!"
"You really don't want to know…"
"Yes – I think I do."
"I'm kinda curious too," said AJ giving me a weird look. "Who the hell is on yours?"
"Well on to the next question," Missy said trying to break the tention. Me and Rhonda shot her a look that told her to get the guys back. "I never rented a porno and charged it to the hotel room." All the guys looked at each other and took a drink.

Once we all were sufficiently drunk from 'I Never' and more things were revealed that probably shouldn't have been. It was suggested that we play Truth or Dare. Of course we were drunk enough that that sounded like a good idea at the time. Nick grabbed the deck of cards and said he had a good version of the game to play. He shuffled the deck and randomly passed some cards out to us explaining that the red cards were 'veto cards' and the black cards were 'pass cards'.

"I'll start," AJ shouted eager to get the game going. "Howie – truth or dare bud?"
"Um – truth."
"Have you told Rhonda the truth about the first day you met?"
Rhonda looked over at Howie, "Truth – what truth?" You could see that she was extremely curious.
Howie began to peal off the label from the empty bottle of mudslide. "Um...you know when I said that Vegas scared my cat onto your balcony…"
"Yeah!"
"Well...um...I...I kinda put her over there so I could come over and get her," he looked up at Rhonda with the 'I'm sorry' eyes that he does so well.
"You're not mad, are you?"
Rhonda tried her hardest to play mad but everyone knew there was no way that she could be mad at Howie. It was impossible to be mad at that guy.

Howie looked around at everyone, "I think I'm gonna pick…AJ. AJ, truth or dare?
"Truth"
"Have you used all the sex toys that you bought from the party?"
I quickly threw a pass card on that. "Next question," I said trying to ignore Nick's disappointed look.
AJ glanced around and picked Missy as the next victim. "Miss – truth or dare?"
"Um – dare."
"Okay," AJ thought for awhile before he came up with, "I dare you to give Nick a lap dance."
Nick got a sudden smile on his face and Missy climbed aboard. "Hey – watch that thing! It could poke someone's eye out!"
"Are you sure it's not his harness?" Howie laughed. Missy shot Howie a look and finished her dance.
"Missy, your turn."
Missy looked around at the group. "Truth or dare Howie?"
Howie looked at her and thought for a minute. "Uhhh…dare I guess."
A gleam came into Missy's eyes at that answer… "I dare you to get up on that table over there with some baby oil on your chest and do a little stripper dance."
Howie was drunk enough by this time that he hardly blushed as Rhonda oiled him down with baby oil.
"Mmmmm…that looks like fun Rhon. Need any help?" I said giving her a wink. AJ glared at me but said nothing.

Once Rhonda was done oiling him up, Howie proceeded to climb up onto the table and started to grind his hips to the music Missy had put in. In the middle of the song he reached down and grabbed the white roses that were sitting on the table and started throwing them into our small little crowd. I noticed most of the roses went towards Rhonda but some of them made it to the rest of us. Nick and AJ threw their back up at Howie as they sat there and laughed their heads off.

"Wow!" was all us girls could say as Howie finally stopped and got off the table.
"O.k.," he said sitting back down a little out of breath. "It's my turn. Amber truth or dare?"
"Well I've been telling them all night so I might as well keep on – truth."
"In your opinion and not from experience – who in the group do you think would be the best kisser?"
"That's easy," I said smiling "Even without having experience I could easily tell you that AJ is the best kisser."
"I don't think so!" said Rhonda slightly beginning to slur her words. "My Howie here is definitely the best kisser!"
"I doubt it – AJ knows how to do things that would make your toes curl." Out of the corner of my eye I saw AJ get a smug look on his face.
"Well there's only one way to find out who the best of the two is," said Missy a mischievous grin on her face. "Why don't you two try the other one out?"
"That sounds like a good idea!" Rhonda said and I agreed with her. In the back of my head I knew this might not look so good in the morning but when your drunk a lot of things look good that shouldn't.
"Who goes first?" I asked.
"I'll be the brave one," said Rhonda as she crawled over to where AJ was sitting. AJ sat her across his lap and they started to kiss.
"O.k. that's enough!" I said after a few minutes and they still hadn't come up for air.
AJ finally let go of Rhonda and she kinda sat there stunned for a minute. "Damn, he really does curl your toes!"
"I guess it's our turn," Howie said as he crawled over to where I was kind of pouting about the length of Rhonda and AJ's kiss. Howie pulled me into his arms and we started to kiss rather passionately.
"O.k. you two you can stop now." I heard Rhonda say after me and Howie were still at it after quite some time. I held my finger to tell her to wait a minute.
"No! There is no wait a minute!" AJ said as he pulled me away from Howie with a growl.
"Wow!," was all I could say. I saw the look on AJ's face and couldn't stand it. "But I still say my AJ is the best kisser!" and with that I walked over to prove it to everyone.
"Hey nobody kissed me to see if I was the best," said Nick sounding rather disappointed. Missy just laughed and gave him a big kiss to prove he was the best in her book.
I sat on the ground and started laughing till I thought I would wet myself.
"What's so funny?" asked Nick.
"It's not you Nick – it's just that this scene reminds me of one of those fan fiction stories that are on the web about you." Rhonda and Missy started rolling on the ground laughing, knowing exactly what I was talking about.
"What fan fictions are you talking about?" asked Howie.
"You've never read your fan fiction before?" Rhonda asked wiping a tear from her eye. "AJ where's your laptop?" AJ went and to get his laptop and we started to show the boys the stories their fans had written. The guys were fascinated.
"Wow some of our fans are really talented!" Howie had pulled out his own laptop and was curled in a chair reading one off a 'Howie Site'.
"Hey – what do they mean Kevin steals my girlfriend – that would never happen!"
"Well would you rather read that or the one where you and one of the other guys share a girl?"
"There are stories like that on here?!"
"Yeah there's you and Brian with his girlfriend in an elevator, there's you and Howie and his girlfriend in a limo, there's…" I started naming off some of the story lines I had read.
"I want to read those!" AJ said handing me the laptop to find them.
"Yeah me too," said Nick who had been reading over AJ's shoulders.

* * *

"Hey J all these stories are about you cheating on your girlfriend," Nick said "You better watch out for him Amber."
AJ muttered something about getting something in the bedroom and got up and left. Howie gave me a look wondering what was up with him. I shrugged my shoulders and went to see what was wrong. I found him in our bedroom looking out the window. I had never seen AJ like upset and I knew something was really wrong.

"You alright honey?" I asked walking over to him and placing my hands gently on his back.
"I would never do that – you know that right?"
I took his hand in mine. "Would never do what?"
"I would never cheat on you. I could never do that to someone I love."
"Honey is there anything you want to tell me?" I asked knowing deep down there was a story behind the way he was acting.
"Let's just say that in past serious relationships it was never me that cheated – I would never cheat on anyone that I loved."
"I would never cheat on anyone I loved either." I said.
"What about those five guys in college, didn't you cheat on all of them?" he asked pain evident in his eyes
"I didn't love them – not like I love you. I would never cheat on you." AJ's eyes lit up at that sentence.
"That's the first time you've told me that you love me, you know."
"I know…I've felt it for a long time…I guess after everything that's happened in my life I was just afraid of telling anyone that again. But I'm not anymore. AJ McLean I love you!"
"I love you too," he whispered leaning down to kiss me. It was a slow kiss that warmed my heart and spoke to me more than any words could. He had never kissed me like this before. It wasn't long though before the kiss turned into one that I remembered and I could feel his tongue enter my mouth.
"The guys downstairs are waiting for us," I said as I gently pushed him away.
AJ picked me up and carried me to the bed "Let them wait," he said as he covered my body with his and started to pull off my shirt.
