"Are you o.k.?" AJ asked standing backstage waiting for the stage manager to tell him it was time to go on.
"You know I've noticed that people have been asking me that a lot this week." I said rubbing my stomach "But hopefully if I answer it one more time you'll stop asking. Besides a little indigestion I'm fine."
"I guess I just worry about you… and you," he said bending down to kiss my stomach. "I can't believe I'm gonna be a father in a couple of weeks."
"I know what you mean – I can't believe that I'm about to be a mother. But I can tell you one thing, I'll be happy once this kid is out of me."
"Well then I guess I'll just have to put another one in there."
"No you don't – we are not having another one until there is a ring on my finger."
"I guess I'll just…"
"AJ, it's showtime," the stage manager came out and interrupted the conversation. Damn – I really wanted to know what he was about to say.
"Daddy's gotta go and sing now," he said leaning down to talk to my stomach "When you come out I'll teach you to sing too. And you – come here and give me a good luck kiss."
I kissed him and watched as he took his place beside the rest of the guys. I walked over to where I saw Missy and Rhonda standing both had decided to stay with the guys instead of going back after the Steve thing.
"Hey hon, how's Baby Boner doing tonight?" Missy asked me patting my stomach. I noticed that most people did that now-a-days. I guess it was because it was just so big. "Wow he's really kicking tonight!" she said as her hand received a good thump.
"Yeah, she's definitely doing something," I said as my indigestion started to act up again. "I am so glad that the group is going to be going on break after tonight. I just want to spend the next week or two off my feet doing absolutely nothing but being pregnant." The management company was smart enough to realize that AJ would want to be by my side during the birth of our child. They planned the break using the two weeks prior to the due date and two weeks after rule to be sure to give us enough time. I think after everything that had happened last week that most of the guys were ready for another break.
"Are you feeling o.k.?" Rhonda asked as I cringed
"Yeah, she was doing this last night too. I think she likes dancing to her daddy's music."
"Well if you need us we're right here," she said as she as she pointed to the spot she was standing on.
"Well unless you want to give your goddaughter some dance lessons – we'll be here." Pointing to the spot I was on.
The guys were awesome as usual. Their music and moves kept the crowd of fans in an uproar. The only thing was that AJ kept sending me looks from on-stage. I was beginning to get the feeling that I might be distracting him. I was about to suggest to the others that we move to another spot that was less distracting when I froze in my spot.
"Rhonda, Missy – I think I need you."
"What?! What's wrong?" Missy said rushing right over.
"I think my water just broke!" I said as I suddenly doubled over in pain. "AWWWWW!" I screamed
"Oh shit!" said Rhonda
After the pain subsided I looked out to see that AJ was standing in the middle of the stage not singing or dancing - just staring at me. The other guys were giving each other looks trying to figure out what was wrong with him. All of a sudden AJ finally seemed to figure out what was wrong backstage and came flying off right as his part in the song came up. Kevin tried to cover but obviously didn't know the words to AJ's part because he just kinda mumbled something that strangely sounded like 'watermelon, banana' into the mic.
"Oh my god you're having a baby!" AJ said as he finally reached me.
"No shit!" I said as another wave of pain seized me. "If it's not to much trouble could one of you please get me to the hospital?" This statement seemed to cause everybody to rush into action. Security was called to get us to the car. Someone called the hospital to tell them we were coming and to get directions. Rhonda agreed to drive us – AJ was not in the position to be driving, and Missy said she's stay and clue the rest of the guys in on what was going on.
"Don't worry," Missy said as we headed out to the parking lot "You have plenty of time before the baby's born. First pregnancies usually have long deliveries."
I shot her a look and said, "Have you forgotten that this is AJ's baby. It seems to be as impatient as he is."
Rhonda drove us to the hospital in record time while AJ sat in the back with me helping me breathe. "We're here!" Rhonda said stopping the car in front of the doorway. AJ helped me out of the car and Rhonda sped off to find a parking space.
"Hello!? AJ yelled trying to get someone's attention.
"Yes, may I help you?" the little old lady behind the desk asked.
"Umm yeah, my girlfriend here is in labor!" The statement was marked by another contraction.
"How far apart are the contractions?" she asked leading me to a wheelchair.
"I don't know!" AJ said panicking. "When you have someone squeezing your hand to death in a dark car it's kinda hard to glance at a watch!"
"Honey," the nurse decided to talk to me, "how far apart are they?"
"About four minutes apart," I said taking a seat in the wheelchair.
"And they started when?"
"At the concert," AJ said trying to be helpful. The nurse looked at me.
"About twenty minutes ago."
"O.k. well let's get you into a room and sir, you can go over to that desk and give the other nurse some information.
"No! I don't want to leave her."
"Sir, they need the information…"
"Hon, it's o.k. I'm having a baby – I'm not going anywhere."
"But…"
"Go Fill the Damn things out!" I yelled, not being able to deal with him and the next contraction that was starting. The nurse wheeled me back as AJ walked over to the counter.
"Here you go," the nurse said as we got to the room and she helped me up onto the bed. "The doctor will be in shortly."
" I only had a short time to wait before the doctor walked into the room quickly followed by AJ. "Hello, my name is Dr. Marcus. And you are?"
"In pain! Can I please get some drugs now?!"
"Her name is Amber and I'm AJ."
"AJ? As in AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys?" the doctor said looking closely at AJ.
"Yep, that's me," AJ said shaking his hand.
"My daughter's a big fan of yours – I must admit I am too. She's at your concert tonight. Wow! I can't believe you're here! Katie will flip when she finds out."
"Excuse me – but if you're done owwing and awwwing over there I'm having a fucking baby!!"
"Oh yeah…sorry!" the doctor said once again focusing on me. I wasn't sure I wanted this quack delivering my kid but I figured I'd forgive him if he just got me some drugs. "Umm let's see just how far along you are," he said starting his examination.
"Hey what are you doing?!" AJ yelled as the doctor lifted the sheet that was covering me.
"He's delivering your damn kid so let him be!"
The doctor quickly finished up his examination. "Well it looks like your fully dilated and this baby is ready to be born."
"It can't be! First deliveries are supposed to take longer than this and I haven't got any drugs yet!!!"
"You're too far along to give you any drugs now – you'll have to have a natural childbirth."
"Come on babe you can do it naturally!" The doctor was smart enough to move AJ out of my reach or maybe he was just saving him for his daughter.
"I'll send someone in right away to prep you and take you to the delivery room," he said as he walked out the door.

Howie and Nick paced around the waiting room. Everytime someone walked out, Nick asked the nurse if it was a boy or girl. Each time, he got a different answer.
"Nick – I don't think they know who you're asking about," I laughed. "Would you guys sit down already? You're driving me insane!"
Howie sat down next to me and Nick walked off down the hallway.
"Are you going to be this bad whenever we have kids?" I laughed.
"No – I'm sure I'll be much worse!" he replied as he rocked back and forth in his chair. "Where the hell did Nick go?"
"I think he went to the gift shop or the cafeteria. Do you want to go look around for him just to get your mind off of things?" Howie nodded and we wandered off down the hall looking for Nick.
We found Nick looking at the babies in the nursery. "Look how little they are," Nick said when we walked up to him. "I can't believe that one of us is actually going to be a father...do you think its going to change things? I mean..." Nick looked down at the floor.
"Don't worry Nick. The five of us will always be together. We'll just have some additional family members that will be around us."
"Do you think Missy and I will ever have a family?"
Howie looked at me for the answer for that one. "You should probably talk to Missy about that one Nick," I said. "Where did she go anyway?"
"She went back to the hotel to get us a change of clothes. You know, we're in our stage outfits."
"I guess that explains the looks you've been getting," I laughed. Howie and Nick looked around as if they expected to find people actually looking at them. "Come on guys, lets go grab some coffee in the cafeteria. This could be a long night."

"Come on babe, this is great! You're doing it!"
"This is great?! What the hell is so great about it? If this is so great you do it!" I said screaming in pain.
"What can I do for you?" AJ asked pushing my damp hair back out of my eyes.
"You can go away and never Fuckin' touch me again!!"
"Just one more push," the doctor said.
"You hear that honey, it'll be over pretty soon."
"That's not soon enough!" I screamed pushing with all I had. "Get this kid out NOW!"

Missy finally showed up with clothes for Howie and Nick. "Sorry but I couldn't get through all of the security outside of the hospital. There are a ton of girls out there!" Brian and Kevin showed up a few minutes later with their clothing slightly torn.
"How's Amber doing?" Brian asked concerned.
"We don't know. We heard some screaming that sounded like AJ but haven't heard anything else," Nick answered. "What the hell happened to you guys?"
Kevin smacked Nick in the back of the head. "A Backstreet Boy is having a baby. There are some very unhappy girls out there!"
Howie shrugged and grabbed the bag of clothes. He was still paranoid about the hospital staff looking at him strangely. He headed over to the men's room and was almost knocked over by AJ.
"IT'S A GIRL!!" he shouted and turned back around to go to the delivery room.

"She's beautiful!'' AJ said as he sat on the edge of the bed, carefully holding our daughter.
"She looks a lot like you," I said taking in the heartwarming site in front of me.
"I guess you were right about it being a girl." AJ brushed a strand of the baby's hair back.
"You're not upset that it wasn't a boy are you?"
AJ looked from me to the baby and back. Then he took my hand and kissed it. "Babe all I ever wanted was a healthy baby. How could I be upset that I have a beautiful daughter who I love almost as much as her mom?"
A tear rolled down my cheek. "I love you too."
"Besides our next one will be a boy." Before I could comment on that he kissed the baby's nose. "And you…" he said as Arrianna grabbed a hold of his finger "I gave your mother a promise a long time ago to keep her safe, now I'm going to give one to you. I promise I will try my hardest to be the best father I possibly can be to you, to keep you safe every single day of your life, and to let you know in every way that you are loved."
"Knock, knock," said Rhonda as she pushed the door open "There are a few people out here that would like to say hi."
"Send them in – there's someone I think they would like to meet." I said taking Arrianna back from AJ.
"She says its fine," Rhonda said pulling back the door to let everyone in. All the guys and Missy filed into the room.
"Everyone I would like to introduce you to my daughter, Arrianna Marie McLean." AJ said "Come on over and get a look at the most breathtaking baby in the world.
Everybody came over to the bed to ohh and ahh over her. Everyone agreed with AJ that she was breathtaking.
"Can I hold her?" Howie asked leaning over and playing with Arrianna's fingers.
"You're the godfather - of coarse you can," I said as I gently laid her in his arms.
He stood there and rocked her gently, a soft look coming over his face. "Look at all that hair on her head. It makes me wonder how much hair our kids will have," he said turning to Rhonda. She had tears in her eyes and I knew she was thinking how great Howie would be as a father. After awhile Howie gave the baby to AJ.
"We should be going and let you get some rest," Brian said "Come on guys they need some alone time." He walked over and kissed the baby on her head and then headed out the door with everyone else following and saying his or her good-byes. The nurse came in a little while after that to take Arrianna back to the nursery. AJ came back over to sit on the bed. "Did you call our parents?" I asked.
"Yeah you're parents are going to fly in and all of them are going to meet us at our house when we get there. They were all happy to here the good news."
"I'm glad," I said my eyes slowly closing as I leaned my head against him on the pillow.
"Go ahead and sleep baby," he said as he leaned down to kiss my forehead. "And thank you."
"For what?" I said half asleep already
"For giving me the perfect gift tonight."
